Things to do on long legs.

Anyone have some realistic ways to pass the time on long flights up front? Besides the usual, studying the aircraft books, operations manuals, complaining about the contract, and the ever popular meowing on guard, etc?

Is one allowed to use the on-board wifi/entertainment on a personal device?, Streaming, ipod, 20 questions with your buddy, I Spy, the hotel newspaper, etc.....

CQ Bidding

Questions on CQ bidding with a carry-in trip. Can you bid/will you be awarded training that conflicts with a carry-in trip? If so is that trip just simply dropped with guarantee in addition to the regular training pay? If the carry-in trip releases prior to the training travel day check-in will that also trigger a drop or will I be expected to fly the rotation and then travel to training on that same day? If so is training pay for the travel day added on top of the trip pay? Thanks.

I want to rid of this trip for another trip but the grid won’t allow it. It’s a 4 day out of Charlotte... There’s a trip in open time I want instead and I can’t lose this trip until I believe I can pick up the other. I’m not sure if that can be done on the trade board.. call or text 386 -589-0129

I have a friend interviewing soon and wondered if anyone can PM me some current TMAAT questions? Or direction on where to find such questions? I have used the search feature and found just a few questions from a few years ago.
Any info on the current interview would be great too

Fred Smith and the rest of the leadership better wake the heck up!! Amazon is the sleeping giant that is going to continue to wreak havoc on Fedex's stock and future operations. Wall street isn't buying the denial and hopefully TNT does not sink the ship.

When you have executives like Sean Haley punching out and joining amazon it's about time to probably sober up because its coming.

"After an abrupt resignation in 2018, a former FedEx exec has a new home with Amazon.

Sean Healy, who spent 32 years with Memphis-based FedEx Corp., most recently as the regional chief operating officer for FedEx Express Europe, resigned in October 2018. The Memphis Business Journal recently learned he is now a director with Amazon."

Executives like Healy and Bronczek don't quit newly appointed positions because everything is going well. There is some serious turbulence within the toxic leadership culture that is just now showing it's face.

Once his noncompete is complete you better believe Bronczek will be recruited and most likely waving the Amazon Prime flag as well.

"FedEx has listed Amazon among competing companies in non-compete agreements recently with high-ranking departures David Cunningham, former FedEx Express president and CEO, and David Bronczek, former FedEx Corp. president and chief operating officer."

Change happens and what awesome yesterday may not be what is fashionable tomorrow.

TAA Time for Commercial

All - Given the new rules in 61.129 regarding Technologically Advanced Aircraft ("TAA") counting for the 10 hrs of Complex Endorsement of the Commercial Pilot training, has anyone encountered this scenario:

Pilot has 100 hours of training in a Cirrus SR20 (TAA) for his private pilot certificate (checkride completed in Cirrus, proficient in TAA, though no endorsement on logbook). His next 150 hours (including Instrument rating) were in a Cessna 172 (Not a TAA). Does the 100 hours in the Cirrus (TAA) count towards the commercial training? The detail is in whether you interpret 61.129(a)(3)(ii) as requiring the time in the TAA to include commercial maneuvers, or just training on how to fly the TAA. Does this pilot need to go do 10 hours of commercial maneuvers in a TAA, or can he do them in a c172 (non TAA, non complex)
Thank you

Any new hire commuting advice?

$

A brief search didn't turn up any info newer than 2015 or so, and I was wondering what to expect as a FedEx commuter, ideally from CID. I am intimately familiar with commuting in general, having done pax 121 commutes from a 25 minute drive, to a 3.5 hour drive, to a single leg high frequency flight to base, to a once a day odyssey halfway across the country, so I am looking more for how it is different on the cargo side. I keep hearing something about a commuting bank? Better to commute on FedEx and just get there a half day early than to try to airline? Any illumination would be appreciated! Thanks!

401K

I searched the forums but couldn't find a specific answer on 401K's.

The Frontier profile page says the company contributes 12% of wages, and it will increase to 15% by 2022. What exactly does this mean? Is a pilot contributing at all, or is this exclusively a company contribution to a pilot's 401K?

Also, does Frontier offer both a traditional and Roth 401K, or just traditional?

Thanks.

ABX Check Airman

We have had several Check Airman quit lately due to the quality of our new hires. They don’t want the responsibility of signing these guys off.
The company recently put out an offer for several new check airman to help with 40-50 new pilots coming on line.
No one should accept this position until we get a contract!

Corporate to Legacies

Hello all,

What’s the feasibility for going into corporate aviation to skip the regionals, and get hired at a legacy carrier? I’m considering going to the regionals but I feel I would enjoy flying corporate more, as well as I’m attracted to home basing, an 8-6 schedule, and the same pay. I know regionals would probably be the fastest way, but what kinds, if any, corporate pilots are getting hired at the majors?

Vacation Ideas

I'm starting to plan next year's Spring Break adventure for my family. Kids and wife are all over the map. They want Ireland, Sparta (my son has played too much of the Assassin's Creed game), or Italy.

I was thinking about throwing in a curve ball to go to J-Burg for a safari. Their break is early March and it looks like that is off season. I feel like this could be a pretty good life experience for them. Any ideas to the shots, visas, etc required to get there?

Any thoughts on this or the or the other destinations? We plan on non-revving because we like the adventure of maybe choosing a completely different place on the fly, thus, we are flexible.

Worst case maybe this thread can be used to help others as ignorant as me planning a vacation.

Lines from ATL

Greetings,
I’m considering which Regional to apply for and would like some information about SkyWest flying from Atlanta.
Are any of you based there who could share what your seniority is and what line you got in the last month or two?
Or generally, do you have options of 2 or 3 day trips or are they mostly 4 day?
How many years seniority at ATL until you could bid with most Sundays off?
How many Pilots are based at ATL?
How do you like SkyWest ATL flying ?
Thank You,

Hello,

Not raise a beaten horse from the dead, but I'm seeking advice on Flight school options considering the current climate of the aviation industry.

Background on me: I'm 27 years old, spent 6 years in the Navy as a Rotary CC. Moved back to Florida originally with the mindset on going to UF but then was persuaded by multiple people to pursue flying.

I was given the advice from a family friend that flys at a major airline to go to a school like ATP to get my certs ASAP to get ahead of the wave that currently is/will be coming due to the need of pilots. This advice came from a respected person whose children went Uni (eldest) and then ATP (youngest).

My question: Is going through an accelerated course like ATP really that big of an advantage over going to school for aeronautics and checking off the Bachelor degree for your resume? Yes you start building your hours sooner but will I be limited in my job opportunities and ability to make captain in the future?

I am skeptical on taking a 80-90 thousand dollar loan out with an interest rate that WF has on their educational loans. How do the recruitment programs offset this massive loan for the people that go private??

Respectfully,

BG
