So I have been reading a lot of articles lately about the 737-9MAX being studied by Boeing as the replacement for the aging 752's out there; specifically to get the MAX out to cover the final 80-90% of the 752 range capability. Many airlines feel the 321neo cannot make the range for Atlantic crossings and/or Hawaii. But Boeing is beginning to say that they can get the range from the -9MAX.... Is this even possible? I would think they couldn't get enough fuel on board due to (if nothing else) the landing gear setup would be over loaded. Plus the wing on the 73 is not exactly up to the task of long haul in my opinion. Neither is the 321 though.
So what do you guys think? Which has a better shot of fitting the last 80% of the capabilities of the 752 out there? One thing for sure, I could not imagine an 8-9 hour flight in the cramped flight deck of the 737! That seems like pure hell to me :)
Maybe Boeing will shrink the 787-8 down a little to fill the void? Any thoughts?
