Lt. Andrew Kinard (USMC-retired), graduate of US Naval Academy and Wounded Warrior Project Board Member gave the commencement speech at my son's college graduation today where he received an Hononary Doctor of Humane Letters. For those not familiar with the name, he had both legs amputated at the hip, was comatose for a month, endured 75 surgeries and over a year's worth of physical therapy after encountering an IED on foot patrol just 6 months into his service in Iraq while serving as an infantry platoon commander 7 years ago. He is currently working on a joint degree from both Harvard Law AND Business School.
To say his speech was inspirational and moving doesn't do it justice and he was received with a rousing and long standing ovation. There weren't many dry eyes at Radio City Music Hall this morning. The man is the epitome of class and character but most importantly, perseverance.
