Dangerous Precedent at ALPA National

Pinnacle Airlines just sat down and TA'd a contract with the management of Delta Air Lines. The Delta MEC had no participation in the agreement.

In the past, ALPA has protected the autonomy of Master Executive Councils to deal with their management, as is outlined in Article IV, Section 2 of our Constitution and Bylaws.

This is a very dangerous precedent for every MEC, particularly the mainline carriers. Do you want another airline sitting at the table with your management? Should your management be able to choose which set of pilots it decides to deal with?

The obvious risk is that a group of pilots will use their new open door to negotiate and undercut each other's bargaining. That is exactly what happened here. The Pinnacle pilots have a "contract within a contract" that modifies the Delta Section 1 to give them preferred hiring and a guaranteed fleet of airplanes in exchange for pay concessions.

ALPA has internal remedies. Much depends on the MEC Chairmen at our airlines. Please ensure your Representational structure is aware of what is going on and ask them to pick up the phone to National.
